Best luxury hotels on Maui

Why I love Maui

Maui is the perfect destination for a luxe getaway. While it may be the best Hawaiian island for first-timers, the stunning five-star resorts and breathtaking landscapes will keep you coming back year after year! Whether you’re planning a honeymoon, babymoon, romantic anniversary, family trip, or you just need an island getaway– these four luxury resorts are my top Maui recommendations:

It’s important to note that these resorts are located on different sides of the island. The Four Seasons and Andaz are located in Wailea, which is considered “South Maui” and is known for its high-end shopping and world-class restaurants. It's also closer to the airport. The Montage and Ritz Carlton are in Kapalua, which is a golfer’s heaven and has Maui’s only oceanside hole!

The Four Seasons Maui beachfront resort.

Four Seasons Maui

This is a chic and sophisticated luxury retreat for couples and families. In my opinion, the service is hands down the best on the island! The Four Seasons is a U-shaped 8-story mid-rise building with 383 spacious rooms and suites fronting the ocean. The warm and friendly staff provide impeccable guest services and their attention to detail ensures a relaxing and memorable stay.

The adults-only Serenity Pool, just steps away from the beach, is a stunning infinity pool with a swim up bar and spectacular views of the West Maui mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Luxury cabanas are available at both the adult and family pools.

The award-winning Spa at Four Seasons is rated #1 Spa in Hawaii by Conde Nast and offers innovative treatments. Choose from 16 indoor rooms and 3 outdoor thatched roof "hales," which feature spectacular views of the Pacific.

Their Complimentary Kids For All Seasons program for children 5-12 years of age is perfect for families.

This hotel is the only Four Seasons in the United States to offer a private Club Floor– an exclusive top level lounge offering multiple food offerings a day, unlimited snack and drinks and personalized service. They have 56 rooms dedicated to the lounge floor, this is where I stayed and loved it!

Dining Recommendation

All restaurants at the Four Seasons showcase local ingredients and recipes and offer a wide variety of authentic Hawaiian options.

Start your day with Duo’s breakfast buffet and do not miss the gorgeous oceanside dinner at Ferraro’s– the truffle mac and cheese is incredible!

On the grounds of the Montage Kapalua, Maui

Montage Kapalua

The Montage Kapalua boasts 50 spacious one to four-bedroom residential-style accommodations each with it's own large and private “lanai,” or balcony. Situated within the world-renowned 24-acre beach-front Kapalua Resort, the Montage is steps away from Kapalua Bay, which is considered one of America’s favorite beaches.

This property features the full-service Spa Montage, historic Cliff House, two championship golf courses, tennis courts, and zip lines. With all these activities available, the Montage Kapalua is perfect for family getaways. Whether you choose to relax by the multi-tiered lagoon pool which cascades down the center of the resort or dine on island-inspired cuisine in one of the resort’s restaurants or lounges, one thing is certain- lasting memories will most definitely be made here.

This Resort is GREAT for families that want some extra room for their accommodations!

Dining Recommendation

Dining at Montage Kapalua Bay delivers exceptional cuisine and tropical ambiance. Cane & Canoe features the freshest seafood and breathtaking views and The Hideaway at Kapalua Bay serves authentic hawaiian dishes and cocktails.

Andaz Maui has 5 pools to relax and soak up the sun.

Andaz Maui

The Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort is sleek and contemporary with five ocean-facing pools, a full-service spa, and two restaurants. This luxe property is situated on 15 explorable acres of oceanfront along Waikapu Beach. The dreamy beachfront makes the Andaz a favorite among honeymooners.

The Andaz has over 300 guest rooms and suites and 11 luxurious two-to four-bedroom residential villas enhanced with modern touches like private lanais for admiring magnificent Hawaii sunsets, bathrooms with ocean and garden view showers, and luxurious body products that invigorate both body and mind.

Dining Recommendation

The breakfast buffet is OUT OF THIS WORLD! Make sure to try the macadamia nut pancakes!

The newly renovated Ritz Carlton Kapalua.

Ritz Carlton Kapalua

Situated on 54 acres of Maui’s Northwest coast, this breathtaking oceanfront resort will inspire all of your senses. With newly redesigned guest rooms and suites featuring private balconies, this is the perfect luxury getaway.

Recent renovations include an enhanced lobby and pool experience, new dining venues featuring a fresh approach on authentic Hawaiian cuisine, and indigenous-inspired spa treatments. All together the Ritz Carlton provides an unforgettable escape.

Dining Recommendation

Hit their Burger Shack for delicious alfresco shakes, burgers, and cocktails.

The Best Activities To Do While Visiting Maui

Maui may have the most luxe resorts of all the Hawaiian islands, but there is also much to offer for adventure-lovers.

  • The Road to Hana – one of the most beautiful drives and a definite bucket list activity. Make sure to stop along the way at the many waterfalls, black sand beaches, and fresh coconut vendors.

  • Haleakala Volcano – experience an unforgettable sunrise or sunset at the summit of Haleakala crater.

  • Snorkel at Molokini Crater - take a journey on a catamaran out to Hawaii's only marine sanctuary for an afternoon of snorkeling.

  • Whale-watching – book a catamaran whale watching tour and get an up close and personal view of humpack whales.

  • Waterfalls – Some top picks are Twin Falls, Pua’a Ka’a Falls, Upper Waikani Falls, Hanawi Falls, and Wailua Falls.

  • Hiking – Check out Waihe’e Ridge Trail in West Maui’s Forest Reserve or Pipiwai Trail along the Road to Hana.

  • Helicopter tours – see Maui from above - the best vantage point to see massive waterfalls, rainforests, and stunning coasts unreachable by car or foot.

  • Makena Beach State Park – visit one of the largest undeveloped beaches located along the south shore.
