Designing a Meaningful Anniversary Trip: Tips + Templates

We wanted our first anniversary to feel intentional, not rushed, so we planned a surprise getaway to slow down and truly reconnect. We revisited our vows, reflected on favorite memories, and filled out a Year One Marriage Report Card along with Goals & Intentions for Year Two, helping us deepen conversations and set meaningful goals.

We love anniversary trips because the right location makes intentional moments and connection effortless.

Below is the template we used (feel free to copy!) plus CLICK HERE for our favorite deep questions game—perfect for car rides or quiet moments together. Scroll down for our Tips for an Intentional Anniversary Trip, and reach out if you want help planning your next Anniversary Getaway!

Tips for an Intentional Anniversary Trip:

1. Start with the “Why”
Before booking or planning, think about what you want this trip to accomplish, reconnection, reflection, or just pure relaxation.

2. Revisit Your Vows
Take a quiet moment to reread your wedding vows. Doing this slowly and intentionally brings perspective on your growth together. If you don’t have your vows written down, make them new each year!

3. Use a Marriage Report Card
Reflect on your first year together with a structured template (above). Rate your connection, communication, intimacy, adventures, and personal growth.

4. Set Goals for Year Two
Dream together! Define shared goals, new experiences, trips, rituals, and areas to improve. This creates intentionality for the year ahead. (template above)

5. Play a Connection Game
Ask each other thoughtful questions to deepen understanding and spark laughter. No phones, no distractions—just conversation. Buy this game to help the game get started!

6. Relive Your Story
Bring out your wedding photos, wedding songs, or memories to celebrate your journey together. This brings gratitude and joy into the weekend.

7. End With Reflection & Celebration
Take time to walk, toast, or just sit together reflecting on the last year and your relationship. Small rituals like this make love feel intentional.

8. Choose a Luxury Spot That Inspires
Pick a hotel or resort that makes the weekend feel elevated, whether it’s desert serenity at Amangiri, ocean views at Las Ventanas, or cozy mountain vibes at Post Ranch Inn.
